a screenshot and if possible the copy/paste of the exception would help.

[UPDATE: Bug fixed - thanks]

On the locks:
I really tried to generate locks today, clicking around for about two hours under different load conditions, cache settings etc.
I had not one lock...
If you turn off \"Write meta data to comic files\" in the preferences, do you still get locks?

Is it a real lock: 0 percent cpu for comicrack.exe or is it using processor time?

The exception is above. Incidentally, when this happens and I restart ComicRack, not even the usual autofilled data is present on the comic that had the trouble--no series or anything.

That seems to be it. I turned it off and couldn't get it to lock, turned it back on and locked it easily. What that means is up to you, but it may have solved my issue for now, so Thanks.

If I find similar trouble with it turned off, I'll check back in to this thread and fill you in.

what file system are you using?
fat32 or ntfs?
are you working with a local disk or network share?

You'll have to forgive my ignorance, my computer knowledge is haphazard. This is a \"normal\" recently purchased Dell Inspiron. 32 bit but the file system would be whatever is standard. It is a \"local disk\" I guess, in that I'm not attached to any other computer or network, just the internet. The disk is just the hard drive in the box.

If this potential bug does involve the write to disk function, it may be relevant that I seem to remember when I checked that option I had trouble with the UAC part of Vista until I tried running ComicRack as an administrator.
