TOPIC: .170 - SQL Server database issues

.170 - SQL Server database issues 4 years 5 months ago #35367

I just tried switching over to MS SQL server. and I get the following error when CR starts

I am on Windows 7 x64, connecting to MS SQL 2008 R2 via SQL Security (username/password pair). As far as I can tell, everything is ok with my connection string - but I am not entirely sure. I have tried with a new user account and also with the 'sa' account, and with and without the semi-colon at the end.

Here is my connection string (scrubbed to protect sensitive data):
DataSource = mssql:Server=server\instance;Database=comicrack;User ID=username;Password=password;

soooo... is this a bug or something I did wrong on my end?

so the fix is to delete your comic db file and restart CR. From there on, it will use MS SQL without a problem. I also retyped the "data" column from Text to XML so I can hand query all the XML fields for custom reports.

Can you tell which comic db file? I'm also receiving the same error? I've tried deleting and recreating ComicDB in SQL multiple times and restarting ComicRack, but everytime I am popped up with this particular error msg the one you have shown in your first post.

I think the one I deleted was located (on windows 7):
C:\Users\{yourusername}\AppData\Roaming\cYo\ComicRack\ComicDB.xml

But when I deleted the comicdb.xml, my COmicrack now shows nothing in the library, no files, no Smart Lists ... but is does show Connected symbol in Status Bar ... does it supposed to work like this?

Yes, you have to start over. Problem? Take it up with the dev that can't be arsed to even address this.

Hmmm ... Though MS SQL integration with ComicRack didn't work but MySql on the other hand worked like a charm. Followed the guide here to implement it:
Using a Shared Database (MS SQL / MySQL)

Yeah plenty of support for MySQL. I have a SQL server instance already, and didn't want to install another database platform for this. Works great if you use MSSQL from the start (or a clean DB file). Would be nice to see at least an acknowledgement of the problem with MSSQL, though.
