For some reason Comicrack doesn't scan recursively in my comics library directory. On my c: drive it works fine, but on my f: drive (external hd) it only detects changes in the root comics folder. I've quickly written a small prog in C# using FileSystemWatcher, just as ComicRack, and that did detect newly added files in subdirectories of my comics folder, so I'm fairly certain it's not an external cause but some bug in Comicrack (or maybe in IronPython?).

ComicRack does only watch for rename events with the file watchers.

Scanning (hitting scan in the preferences) or using the menu entry does always walk paths.

Hitting the scan button does absolutely nothing, no disc activity or anything.

Cutting & pasting a file from my download dir to my comics dir is recognized as a rename by the filesystemwatcher (as the msdn documentation states, because this is essentialy a rename of a file). This is confirmed by the fact that comicrack does pick up the file copied to my comics folder (but not in any subdir of that folder, although I think I saw in the decompiled source that you enabled recursive watch).

No further suggestions? If you would open source comicrack I could at least search for it myself instead of being frustrated because I have to add loads of comics manually one by one

Here's a workaround for your problem so you can add all new comics in a folder and all its subfolders at once.
  1. Select the Folders tab
  2. Select the root folder where the new eComics are located
  3. Sort ascending by Date Added by clicking the column header in the list view twice
  4. Activate the option to Include All Subfolders by toggling ON the button with two folders as the icon. This is located just above the folder tree view.
  5. All eComics not currently found in your library will have \"Never\" as the Date Added value. Select all of these.
  6. Right click the selected eComics and click on \"Add to library\"

Thanks, alas that doesn't work either. Comicrack only searches one level deeper as the root comic folder, same problem I have with the scan feature...:(

Maybe I have some weird file somewhere in the hierarchy where comicrack crashes upon? No way to tell without the source code...

It's weird, sometimes it seems to work, sometimes it doesn't (using the trick wadegiles outlined). I think it has something to do with caching the files already listed, because when I change some options (like recursive), click refresh and click around on some other folders then sometimes my new comics are picked up.
