TOPIC: Webcomic Helper (Version 1.2)

Re: Webcomic Helper (Version 1.2) 5 years 4 months ago #23083

Well first of all, I want to say that this script is absolutely BRILLIANT! I love it to pieces! Now I don't have to rely on RSS readers to keep up with my webcomics, which is a definite relief!

But I have noticed that this script doesn't work for MangaMagazine.net comics... Or maybe it's just Todd Allison and the Petunia Violet. Either way, here's a link to TAATPV.
www.mangamagazine.net/manga-and-comics/T...iolet/detail-page/23

And again, thanks so much for making this script! IT ROCKS!

Nerd Cubed
Creator/s : Daniel Hardcastle
Description: Minecraft, through the eyes of a traveler, who has traveled far...
CBW : There is no CBW that I could find
First Comic: Here

I would not figure out how to do it for a comic, called Nerd³ (Nerd Cubed), a Minecraft webcomic. :)

Thank you ahead of time,

Also, Minecraft and Nerd³ fans FOREVER!

@Miningdude

There is a cbw for Nerd3 in the Index of Web Comics

@everyone else:
Thank you for your reports on webcomcs that don't work. I'll try and update this script sometime soon.

Thanks to all who came up with this as well as the tutorial. Sorry to be a lurker here; I've just been super busy with a new job.
But when I stumbled on this, I had to try it out! But I'm having trouble; maybe I'm interpreting the instructions wrong.

When it says to enter in the URL for the very first page of the webcomic, does it literally mean the first page of the comic, or the first page of the comic's website?

Because then, when it says to enter in the URL of the image of the first page of the comic, that seems to be the same URL to me.

I know that with some sites, when you click an image, it takes you to a different URL, but when I tried it with 3 different webcomics' first pages, none of them took me to a different URL.

All 3 of my test tries failed, and I have a feeling it has something to do with this. Is there a different way to find another URL for the image?

Yes it means literally the url of the first page of comic's website.

For example for El Goonish Shive:

The first page url would be : www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-01-21
The first image url would be: www.egscomics.com/comics/2002/01/20020121_cqrF.gif
The second page url would be: www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-01-22

Thanks for your response, but I think I figured it out for myself.

For the url of the art of the first page, I discovered I could right click and select "copy image location" then paste it in Web Comic Helper.

And when you referred to the "first page of the comic's website" I originally thought you might mean the first page of the website which would actually be the most recent episode rather than the very first episode in your example.

Just thought I would further clarify these two points in case others out there might be as confused as I was.

Wow! I have been away from CR forums for a while, but I have requested a few webcomics, all of which got filled quickly by Helmic or 600...and this is amazing! Makes it way easier to read webcomics in CR.

I tried this information exactly as described, and tried manually getting the values from www.egscomics.com and www.elgoonishshive.com/

the script asked for the image behind the next link , which I also provided but it failed.

I did find a CBW for ElGoonishShive in the Index of Web Comics (CBWs) , however I noticed that since the 'next' regex for it matches to the date in the url
<Part>Next' href='(?<link>/\?date=\d*?-\d*?-\d*?)'</Part>

That it will not retrieve the latest page of the webcomic , because the second last page of the comic's "Next" link points to the main page at just "www.egscomics.com" without a date value.
Any ideas on a workaround to get the script to work and to retrieve all of the comics , including the latest one that is present on the site's front page?

I'm reading through all of these reports and PM's and cringing at all the porn comic requests.

I blame 600.
Request webcomics on IRC: http://widget.mibbit.com/?server=irc.rizon.net&channel=%23comicrack
server: irc.rizon.net
channel: #comicrack
Or in the webcomics subforum: http://comicrack.cyolito.com/forum/22-web-comics
