Use the alternate checkbox. It drops everything after "part" in the comparison.

Disregard my previous post.

I finally got around to testing this instead of just answering off the top of my head.

For that example, use the 2nd Story Arc matching button that supports matching multiple story arcs at once. Do not use the "alternate method" checkbox, leave it blank. It will match the story arc name correctly.

I have the Buffy Season 8 and 9 so I tested those exact comics.

I was going to reply that I didn't think the single match button had the alt checkbox. :) Is there anyway to make the algorithm consistent between single and multi-arc detection?

I purposefully left them a little different to find more story arcs.

Reviewing my code here's how you should use the two methods and what they are doing.
  • Always start off by using the multiple story arc detection (alternate unchecked). This will look for "part" in the title and remove it and everything after it and then compare all titles for common substring and group issues together based on those.
  • If that doesn't work quite right for some issues select those and try the same method with "alternate" checked this time. It will remove "part" from title but leave everything after it. Usefull in the cases of:
  • Big Arc part 4
  • Part 5 of Big Arc

  • If those still don't get it right, use the single story arc match button. This method does the strictest substring matching. It does not remove "part" before doing the match. But it does afterwards is a cleanup routine that I made.

  • I started dropping everything after the "part" by default in the multiple matching in part because of roman numerials.

Perhaps combining into 1 button, then? Click the button and choose between normal, alternate, and strict matching modes. Perhaps a note that strict mode will only work on single arcs.

    Perhaps.

But at the moment I don't know much more than how to ask yes/no or display a checkbox. If someone would like to tell me how to make a dialog with 3 options or a dropdown list to select the method to use I'd be grateful.

I also updated the original post with the usage info I just posted.

I just found some forum references on using windows forms for better dialogs, so perhaps perhaps perhaps...

I've updated the original post with version 0.5. There is now only one button to press and then a dialog to select how to detect story arcs.

Excellent work. Can you make the initial selection box always appear in the center of the screen like the match window? Right now it changes position with each run and it's sorta like a moving target! Otherwise the UI is quite streamlined.

It does not properly detect <Title>, Chapter One. I got for the story arc, <Title>, Chapter
