docdoom Proudly Presents the Backup Manager for ComicRack

This little plugin automates the process of saving the ComicRack library file. See the manual at google code for further information.

Important: Version 1.0 is online

Major changes

backups are stored as ZIP files so they can easily be restored from within CR

full backup of %appdata%\cyo\comicrack is supported

Backup Manager is integrated in the ComicRack toolbar (1-click backups)

Known Limitations

The Backup Manager provides two backup modes:

"normal" – it saves the ComicDB.xml file in the %appdata%\roaming\cyo\comicrack folder as well as the custom thumbnails. This mode runs at each start of ComicRack but can be run manually as well.
"full" – it saves the complete content of %appdata%\roaming\cyo\comicrack including subfolders as well as the custom thumbnails.
  • At the moment the Backup Manager will not save your ComicDB.xml if it is not located in the folder %appdata%\roaming\cyo\comicrack.
  • With ComicRack 0.9.164 and higher you can use shared SQL servers as data sources for your library instead of the ComicDB.xml file (currently MySQL and MS SQL). If you use these server back ends for your library the normal backup mode of the Backup Manager does not make sense. In this case you should use the database backup features in MySQL and MS SQL, resp. But of course you can use the Backup Manager to backup manually %appdata%\roaming\cyo\comicrack including subfolders.

BIG thanks to 600WPMPO and Mammut for their most valuable input.

Another good script from the one & only Doctor Doom. :cheer:

I have a few suggestions/requests:

1. Let the user specify the path where the database is saved
2. Let the user decide the frequency of saving the database
3. Let the user decide how many times in a day should the database be saved
4. An option to save the database at the time of exiting ComicRack
5. A one-click button on the browser toolbar for manually saving the database

p.s. +1 karma on its way

p.p.s. I've also entered the issues in the google code page

@4: not possible at the moment because there is currently no hook for plugins when CR is closed. I posted a request for that feature and cYo will implement it with the next CR release.

@5: please read my comment to issue 4

"With this version you can select in which folder the backup files will be stored."

At the first restart I can only select from the My Documents' folders. After that at the Configure I can select any folder on any drive.

Oops, I will fix that in 0.1.2 (which will contain some more goodies :) )
