TOPIC: ComicVineScraper - an ImportComicVineInfo clone

Re:ComicVineScraper - an ImportComicVineInfo clone 7 years 9 months ago #6129

I have a general noob question regarding the script, if the metadata data from Comic Vine Database has changed or been updated for a certain comic book, if I rescrape that issue will the new metadata overwrite the old metadata (stored in ComicInfo.xml) ?

Cheers for an awesome script!

Yes assuming you update your files and you choose the overwrite function in the settings of the scraper.

Well cbanack, here is the windows error description for the last crash. I don't know if it would be of any use though..

Actually, this is very useful. That System.ObjectDisposedException is exactly the problem I was working on over the weekend, which makes me pretty sure that all of these crashes are related to the same bug (which just gets worse if the cover images are turned on.)

Blame it on my unfamiliarity with the .NET threading model. I've figured things out now, though, and I will try to get a build with fixes out tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, if these crashes are annoying you, you might want to roll back to 1.0.14 until the next release...it has crashing problems too, but I don't think they are nearly as common as in 1.0.15.
p.s. I have been able to reproduce the crash fairly easily with "X-men Hope"..
That is also good news. Bugs are much easier to fix when at least one person can reliably reproduce them...

I've created a new issue in the issue tracker for this problem. To anyone else who gets that microsoft error dialog when they experience a crash, you can help me out by sending me the contents (like 600WPMPO has). Just paste them into a comment on the issue in the tracker, or post them to this forum thread.

It is not too big. I actually switched back to my changes which makes the preview window double in height and width.

I feel that it is too big.. earlier it was ok..

anyway, when we get to resizable dialog box, all this will cease to be a problem and we may adjust it as per our tastes..

Just as an FYI to all 1.0.17 is out:

comicrack.cyolito.com/user-forum/32-news...ic-vine-scraper-1017

Not sure if I like separating the discussion from the announcements.

I'm getting an "exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" error message whenever I try to use this script. It doesn't seem to matter how many issues, or which files I'm trying to scrape, I always get the same result. I'm completely new at this so it's probably my fault but I was hoping someone could help because I have no idea what to do. Thanks.

Don't worry, I'm sure it can be sorted out.

The first thing to do is make sure you're using the right version, and following the right installation instructions (this is an older thread for the comic vine scraper, the latest thread is in the News and Announcements section...so the versions of the scraper and the install instructions here are a bit out of date.)

So the first thing you should try (assuming you didn't do this in the first place) is:

a) make sure you're using the latest ComicRack (version 0.9.121)
b) uninstall the Comic Vine Scraper that you've currently installed
c) go here to get the latest Comic Vine Scraper, and follow the installation instructions on that page.

Let us know if that helps.
