Please note: You need to download & have a basic understanding of the Data Manager script to follow this tutorial.

Download here:
http://bit.ly/1k5IlTw

p.s. You need a scraped library before you use the DataManager.

Concept

Marvel NOW! is a Marvel relaunch that began in October 2012. It brought some major changes to the Marvel Universe and launched many new ongoing series from some of the biggest names in the business. This is a concept (www.comicvine.com/concepts/).

All the details about the various concept groups, waves & their current status can be found in these pages:

www.comicvine.com/marvel-now/4015-56129/
www.comicvine.com/allnew-marvel-now/4015-56264/
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_NOW!

Wave

The books are released in 'waves'. Marvel NOW! books were released in two waves, one in 2012 & another in 2013. Marvel's second phase of relaunching and restructuring their line-wide output was termed All-New Marvel NOW!

Instead of labelling All-New Marvel NOW! as a separate concept, it is better to deal with it as a Concept Wave of Marvel NOW!

There are also many existing volumes which not using the Marvel NOW! logo. These existing Marvel title aren't included in, or affected by, Marvel NOW! and have switched to use the red banner at the bottom but not the Marvel NOW! logo since the initial relaunch, retaining their original numbering, their creative teams (with a few exceptions), and mostly continuing their current story lines. There are also some new limited series which are not using the Marvel NOW! logo. We shall label all these as simply Not Marvel NOW!

Group

Unlike DC's New 52, Marvel doesn't group its books by characters or themes.

Status

Many titles have been canceled after completing a certian number of issues. We will denote their status as 'discontinued', while the others are either New Ongoing Volumes, New Limited Series, or Existing Volumes.

Custom Fields

So, we make use of the custom fields, and make some new fields:
  • Concept
  • Concept Status
  • Concept Wave

Now, we need to make our rules in the DataManager to automate these custom field.

I've already done all the hard work & the rules are available to be downloaded here:

File Attachment:

File Name: MarvelConcepts.zip
File Size:2 KB

Imoprt these rules in your DataManager & run it on your existing DC Comics, as well as on your 0-days every week.

To pull these books in your ComicRack, you only need a smart list like this:

Now, it's your choice as to how to group. Enjoy! :)

Thank you again....I'm beginning to get a pretty good understanding on using ComicRack and most of the necessary scripts due in no small part to your easy to follow and thorough tutorials.I've learned a lot from them and wanted to let you know that many of us really appreciate it even if we don't always take the time to say "Thanks".

Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate this. :-)

p.s. I'm now working on the Hellboy chronology. So, keep all your Hellboy comics scraped! ;-)

great work, but i can't get this to work.
If done the following, downloaded the actual version of the datamanager.
Imported the dat file. I see it in the data manager under concepts.
now i selected one comic series that should be touched (Avengers Assemble). In the log file stands the following:
Your criteria matched no book. No data was touched by the Data Manager.

Is there something else i must do to get it working?

Have you run the ComicVine Scraper on the files?
