Elseworlds is the publication imprint for a group of comic books produced by DC Comics that take place outside the company's canon. Elseworlds story arcs have been around since the dawn of the DC Universe. Though the concept of Elseworlds has been around forever, the name wasn't officially used until the 1990s. Some of DC Comics best stories have been Elseworlds stories.

One of the many great stories that stands out is The Kingdom story arc. It's notable for not only being a sequel to the great Kingdom Come Elseworlds miniseries, but for also bring the story from that miniseries into the DC continuity as an alternate timeline.

The story was built upon the concepts of Alex Ross as a continuation of Kingdom Come, thus it was suppose to be another great collaboration between Alex Ross & Mark Waid. However due to development disagreements, the project ended up being written by Mark Waid and drawn by Ariel Olivetti/Mike Zeck instead of the art being done by Alex Ross.

The story took place 20 years after the events in Kingdom Come in which heroes that inhabited the reality of Kingdom Come had crossed over into the mainstream reality via Hypertime in order to stop Gog and his murderous campaign against Superman in various realities.
