I'm sorry, you just said you don't like Mike Allred's art, thereby invalidating your entire post. I will read anything the man puts his name on - the first issue of FF was awesome. (So was Fantastic Four, fwiw).
I know that most reviewers have given this largely positive reviews.

So, I read this just now, but still am no different in opinion. It has Matt Fraction as the writer. I'll always remember him as the man who made me stop reading Thor. He can't write. So, is evident here also. The entire issue is like disjointed vignettes, with the FF trying to recruit a new team. It’s just a set-up for a plot (maybe) to come in the coming issues. Am I supposed to get excited about this?

From Multiversity comics:
Even if you didn’t know what the basic plot is, the overall idea for the series is stretched out over the duration of the book to the extent that nothing essentially “new” happens; from looking at the cover you know who the new team is, and all we’re given is how each member was asked to join. The book is brought to the starting line of a race, and the starting gun fires on the final page, leaving the reader with a book where nothing really happens.

The art... please enlighten me as to how is this art any better than anything else on the stands. Take a look at the mono-colored backgrounds. Lazy, I say:

Lee & Kirby were legends. But, the 80's are now over. Lets move on.

Edit: Compare the 'awesome' art of FF#1 with that of the new Thor:

THIS is awesome!

I can see how some of those complaints about FF#1 are somewhat valid...coming into it off reading the old run I probably had a slightly different perspective about it, already being familiar with all the characters. As for the specifics of the art, sorry, that Allred art just makes me swoon, especially next to that muddy gray Thor art you posted (and I also think God of Thunder is really good, so don't get me wrong here).

I may be slightly biased simply because Allred has worked on so many really good books. Madman and X-Force/X-Statix are must reads, and I really liked iZOMBIE too (which just wrapped recently).

Even I can draw the art of FF, but not that of Thor. Just saying!
Here is a quickly scribbled one ( compare with the first screen of FF above) on Sketchbook pro on my iPad:

OK... so I managed, fnally, to read Fear Itself and Shattered Heroes...

Note: I read the in Italian 'cause I borrowed most issues from friend of mine: translation was AWFUL...

Still, I guess AvsX is the next Story Arc...right? Should I read something in between (last issues I read were:

Invincible Iron Man (2012) 515
Avengers (2010) 23
New Avengers (2010) 23
Avengers Academy (2010) 26
The Incredible Hulk (2011) 5
Mighty Thor (2011) 12
Captain America (2011) 10
Fear Itself: The Fearless (2011) 12

Thanks

I posted this in another topic, here it was a bit out of place.
