This should complete the road to stability for the 0.9.137 build. All problems introduces with all the new features and changes in 0.9.137 should now be solved.

But 0.9.139 is not only a bugfix release but adds lots of candy in its own bag:
  • Lots of new icons for publishers, formats and ratings
  • The ComicRack online manual is now integrated and can be activated in Help Menu
  • ComicRack runnin on Windows XP now looks much better and integrated into the default visual style
  • Lots of visual finetuning and upgrades to make stuff in the user interface look nicer and faster
  • Loading of pages during reading has been optimized leading to smoother animations and paging
  • The three main dialogs (Info, Multiple Books and Preferences) have been optimized to open faster
  • ComicRack tries now to find best values for some internal settings for the system (hardware acceleration etc.)
As this is still also a bugfix for some show stoppers in ComicRack 0.9.137/138 this download replaces these two versions.
I hope everybody is happy now :P (usually I regret such bold statements with some bugs rearing their ugly heads within the first hour of release...)

Your opinion here.

Here goes the review of another fast ComicRack release! This is supposed to be the 'stable' release that will stay for some time, before cYo returns from his vacation full of guns, girls and gadgets! Let us not wait any further, and just tear this ComicRack release apart..

Likes, dislikes, and queries follow..
* NEW: Added ComicRack Online Manual
* CHANGE: Moved selection of help system from preferences to Help menu
:cheer: Finally, finally.. it is here! A mention of the "Manual" in the main ComicRack program.
* CHANGE: Update to Iron Python 2.7
* CHANGE: Optimization of Comic/Multiple Comic Dialog initialization
* CHANGE: Faster initial preferences dialog startup
This is a much faster ComicRack, most probably thanks to these changes. Reading comics and opening dialogs also feels much smoother. I don't know if it could be made any faster...!
* NEW: Added bow shadow to thumbnails
* CHANGE: Better drawing of library gauges if not enough display space
* CHANGE: Nicer Splash/About screen
* CHANGE: Slight adjustment to rating star sizes

These are subtle cosmetic changes that make it look subconsciously better! ;)
* CHANGE: 3D book thickness now depends on the actual page count
* CHANGE: Added small shadow below 3D books
* CHANGE: Turning mouse wheel over cover image in Comic Info Dialog moves to next/prev comic in list
* CHANGE: Moved text into the background for 3d covers

A lot of 3D covers enhancements. Compare above for one of my real books with the representation in the Info dialog!

Still no mention of the manual in the readme file.
* NEW: Added ComicRack Online Manual

A bug.. it is possible to get multiple instances of the ini file in one menu, by selecting one help option, and then the other.
* CHANGE: 3D book thickness now depends on the actual page count

The 3D cover is too fat! Asterios Polyp is a 344 page book, that appears way too thick in the Info dialog than it is in real-life. Only the absolute editions can be this big. Basically, this thickness needs to be optimized to a lesser value in future builds.
* CHANGE: New "Unknown cover" icon

 Is is just me, or is everyone getting the old icon?
* CHANGE: Support for multiple icon resource files
* CHANGE: Support for custom resources in %PROGRAMDATA%\cYo\ComicRack\ (same path structure as in install folder)
Would like to know more about these options..

This was the 'smoothest' ComicRack release for me.. noticeably faster and more efficient. Almost all of the bugs of the 137 release have been ironed out. The way ahead is becoming more and more promising.

I withhold half a star only as a motivation to that path!

In all fairness, to calculate the proper book dimensions you'll need to be able to enter the width and the height of the book, as well as some "factor" representing page thickness. I personaly see it as a nice to have.

I haven't been able to try it yet, but my guess would be that a user can make it's own AgeRatings.zip, Formats.zip and Publishers.zip and put it in %PROGRAMDATA%\cYo\ComicRack\Resources\Icons (I believe %PROGRAMDATA% is where the database is). The big advantage is ofcourse that it doesn't get overwritten by any future installs.

Hey cYo

Thanks for yet another update. Nice going on the library scrolling changes, makes the program feel smoother. Any performance enhancement is great, and this current batch of releases has upped the game alot.

Regarding the "thickness" of the thumbnails, just clamp the max value to a given number - there is no better way to do this, as you don't know the real dimensions of the book to approximate its height properly. This way, even if someone has the yellow pages on the library, it will still fit the window.

Nice change, moving the network start code to the end of the start up, fixes the problem i found of having a "server" starting with "clients" trying to connect at the same time - the race could crash CR.

All in all, very nice. No problems found (but im trying!)

fK

@600:
If you want you can write a nice and long readme.txt an I'll include it into the next comicrack setup :P

 That was easy! How do you do this, man!

Another query (coz the answer to this means a lot of upheaval in the manual)

Are fileless entries now officially called Book entries..?

Sure?

It was comic before, I think. Basically yes it is a book entry (a book from your collection). Remember you can always link them to a file later on in the info dialog.
