No, actually the 'non-purists' should have that option (to scrape the released date into the published date). :P

you never know the API add it so both exist that before he puts out another version :D
In fact, this is exactly what has happenned. :)

I'm now in touch with a developer at ComicVine, and he's been really helpful. He's fixed all of the API bugs that I reported, and he added API access to both the cover_date and the store_date. Unfortunately, he changed some more stuff around--I spent most of today fixing up new problems that have cropped up (e.g. the latest scraper can't find ANY kind of date to scrape anymore).

I also made a suggestion for some small changes to the API that will let me optimize the scraper (means it will run better on slow internet connections). He said he'd implement the changes next week. That's good; it gives me a bit of time to deal with all the other little problems. And maybe sleep, too.

So at this point it looks like I'll be able to release a fully functional version of the scraper (early?) next week.

if it ain't one thang it's another!

Actually, while I'm working on it...can anyone tell me how to say "Released Date" and "Published Date" in German (de), French(fr), Italian(it), Dutch Belgian (nl-BE), Polish (pl), or Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR)?

The catch is, I need a word or phrase that is about the same length or shorter than each English phrase...

German:
released date = Erscheinungsdatum
published date = Veröffentlichungdatum

you're on your own with the rest

I only speak German and Japanese other than English.

Dutch Belgian: Release date = releasedatum
Published date = publicatiedatum

I'll ask my wife to translate into Brasilian when she gets home tonight.

Brazilian Portugese : Release date = Data de início de vendas
Published date = Data de lançamento

In Italian they would be

Released Date: Data di uscita
Published Date: Data di pubblicazione.

but these 2 terms are, at least in my opinion, very ambiguous, released and published being pretty much synonyms.

Would it not be easier to call them "Cover Date" and "Published date"?
I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!

In Polish (pl):

Release Date: Data wydania
Published date: Data publikacji

As kenijo said the two terms are virtually synonyms

Thank you cbanack for your hard work on this, it's been invaluable. Especially for sorting out the absolute mess my collection was in before

There is no difference between Erscheinungsdatum and Veröffentlichungsdatum in German language. I would suppose:

released date: Erscheinungsdatum (or: veröffentlicht)
published date: Cover date (or: Cover Datum)

Well the problem is here that cbanack isn't at liberty to decide the labels...
it's cYo's application, he's only writing a script that reflects what cYo decided to label things as...
I suppose he could change the labels but then they wouldn't coincide with ComicRack, and may mislead someone to think to look for something by Cover Date and therefore be confused when they find no option to filter by cover date.

So if you have a grievance with the labels you should talk to cYo but I doubt it'll make a difference.

Also, there is a distinct difference in the words Veröffentlichungs (Published/Publication: made publicly distributed printing), and Erscheinungs (Released: made publicly available) you can release something without publishing it, and you can publish something without releasing it (case in point: Glory #16 which was published, yet never released because of some big split-up crisis at Image) but i do agree with you, not in this case.

Would "Data Rilascio" be an improvement? (And --wild guess here-- "Data Pubblicazio"?)

Yes, exactly. Though to be fair, I don't believe there is any "Published Date" (equivalent to "Cover Date") labeled anywhere in ComicRack. There is just the general unlabeled date that we're all familiar with (which we've decided is the published date) and a relatively new field in the catalog tab called "Released Date". So there is a little bit of flexibility in naming the first one, if you feel that the two choices do not differ enough. But in English it will be called "Published Date".

Since I do not speak any of these languages (except French, very badly) I am in NO position to make a judgement call as to what these fields will be called in any language other than English. Thus when I add these fields today, I'll just take whatever translations have been offered for the other languages...
