Thanks a lot Shinrai & Lord Wojo for all the helpful replies! Positive karma is flowing in your direction....:-)

Ok.. so basically, what I infer from all the above posts is that I should try to go for the U2410 as much as possible. If, however, I have severe budget constraints, I can opt for the U2412M. But still, having the 2410 would be perfect. Correct?

One last suggestion I ask for:

Now, I'm getting a used U2410 on eBay (the same seller from whom I bought my first new one in 2012) at half the price (i.e. price equal to a new U2412M). The seller says the purchase date is August 2012, and the listing says' "Condition of the monitor is - Pretty Good ... no dead/stuck pixels".

As I have always purchased new hardware, I am in two minds. Should I go for it? Or for a new one?

It turns out I'm getting a new 42" hand me down TV tomorrow but my card only handles 2 screens (monitor and TV) Now I'm thinking how nice it would be to get a new card though and put my old 28" TV on it's side for reading comics....

Wow, this thread has gone off topic, still a really cool topic

I'm curious to see what other people feel a reasonable threshold for size per page is.

I have played around with my settings but as wojosama said, I am curious what others are using.
I set my re-size by height to 1800 and a few 100+ meg books are now 20 meg. Now I am "scared" that I went too low....

Just a tiny bit off topic.
Best I can say is just keep both copies of the files if you can (if not do another convert and keep both) and do a side by side comparison and see what you think.

Lord 600:
I can't really speak on used monitors. I also always go new hardware, so I'm really not sure. The monitor isn't that old though, and its a high quality monitor, so there should still be plenty of life left in the backlight and inverter.
Unrelated: this thread has made me think we need a general off-topic category.

Yeah, my bad, I *tried* to keep it relevant! :)

600: If you trust the seller, I say go for it (unless you simply don't care about the savings). Make sure it comes with the OEM stand though!

Weird, I've only seen them with black front and silver sides.
Oh yeah, this one is like that. I thought you meant that the front part was silver too.

On topic: When viewing on a portrait 1200x1920 screen you really want a big scan to take advantage of all those lovely pixels :)
Same goes for those extremely high resolution tablet screens too.

Thinking about it, it's also future proofing. If you're going to be keeping the scans for a long time you want ones that'll still look good on future higher resolution displays.

I have placed the order. If Shinrai says 'go for it', I do not hesitate....:)

p.s. I contacted the seller, and he says that the monitor has 'hardly been used'.

p.p.s. Sorry for the thread hijack, but then sometimes one thing leads to another. Here you just saw me buy a monitor because cYo posted a reading list!

p.p.p.s Once I receive & setup my new monitor (displaying some 'ridicuolous HQ scan' in portrait mode), I'll post a picture here..

You guys have me thinking that from now on maybe I'll re-size my comic height to 1920 instead of 1800 just in case I get a portrait monitor in the future. 1800 is perfect for me when reading landscape but I suppose 1920 wont shorten the page too much more.
