Not at all, Wolfy! :cheer:

By the way, the only difference between what I wrote 2 years back & now is the fact that now we have the Data Manager. That time we even didn't have the series group & the main character fields (I had to beg to cYo many times for these!:evil: ). So, what was earlier done as a manual workaround (using smart lists & tags) is now automated (using Data manager rules). Things are much, much simpler to understand & explain. :-)

Tanks 600WPMPO por your guide, i used the firts version to try to orginize my library

With base of your estructure i make my personal structure, and i want to share because some could find usefull.

1. In your structure don't exist the universe, for example in Marvel comics you have The Ultimate Universe, the traditional universe, or the novels universe (Wizard of Oz, Dorian Grey ...)
For that reazon i used the field imprint to represent the universe.

2. The chronology, i want to order my folders in chronology order, for later read in this order, i use the story arc for that.

3. The universe that have more thant one editorial in the past of time, for example star wars or red sonja or Buffy the vampire Slayer. For that reazon i put in the Tags the value "MultiPublisher"

Here is my structure (Universe = Imprint - Chronology = story arc)
01. Publisher - Universe - Serie
Examples: C:\Comics\Marvel\Novels Universe\Dorian Grey (2008)
C:\Comics\Image\Clone (2012) (In this example Imprint is empty and apply this option)
Folder: {<publisher>}\{<imprint>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is Empty and
Main Character-Team is Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags not contains MultiPublisher

02. Publisher - Universe - Main Character-Team - Serie
Examples: C:\Comics\Dynamite Entertainment\Warlods of Mars Universe\Dejah Thoris\Dejah Thoris and the Green Men of mars
Folder: {<publisher>}\{<imprint>}\{<maincharacter>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is Empty and
Main Character-Team is not Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags not contains MultiPublisher

03. Publisher - Universe - Series Group - Serie
Examples: C:\Comics\Marvel\Novels Universe\Wizard of Oz\Ozma of Oz (2011)
Folder: {<publisher>}\{<imprint>}\{<seriesgroup>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is not Empty and
Main Character-Team is Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags not contains MultiPublisher

04. Publisher - Universe - Series Group - Main Character-Team - Serie
Examples: C:\Comics\DC Comics\Universe DC\New 52\Metropolis\Action Comics (2011)
Folder: {<publisher>}\{<imprint>}\{<seriesgroup>}\{<maincharacter>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is not Empty and
Main Character-Team is Not Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags not contains MultiPublisher

05. Publisher - Universe - Series Group - Chronology
Examples: C:\Comics\Marvel\Movies Universe\Phase 01\02. I'm Iron Man
Folder: {<publisher>}\{<imprint>}\{<seriesgroup>}\{<storyarc>}
Rules: Series Group is not Empty and
Main Character-Team is Empty and
Story arc is Not Empty and
Tags not contains MultiPublisher

06. Publisher - Universe - Chronology
Examples: C:\Comics\IDW Publishing\Locke & Key\01. Welcome to Lovecraft
Folder: {<publisher>}\{<imprint>}\{<storyarc>}
Rules: Series Group is Empty and
Main Character-Team is Empty and
Story arc is not Empty and
Tags not contains MultiPublisher

The Next is for organize the series that was print por diferent publisehers and make part of the same universe (Ex: Star Wars, Buffy ..., this following the same structure of the first 6 sets, only that dont make the directory of the publisher

11. Universe - Serie
Folder: {<imprint>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is Empty and
Main Character-Team is Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags contains MultiPublisher

12. Universe - Main Character-Team - Serie
Folder: {<imprint>}\{<maincharacter>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is Empty and
Main Character-Team is not Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags contains MultiPublisher

13. Universe - Series Group - Serie
Folder: {<imprint>}\{<seriesgroup>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is not Empty and
Main Character-Team is Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags contains MultiPublisher

14. Universe - Series Group - Main Character-Team - Serie
Folder: {<imprint>}\{<seriesgroup>}\{<maincharacter>}\{<series>} {(<volume0>)}
Rules: Series Group is Not Empty and
Main Character-Team is Not Empty and
Story arc is Empty and
Tags contains MultiPublisher

15. Universe - Series Group - Chronology
Folder: {<imprint>}\{<seriesgroup>}\{<storyarc>}
Rules: Series Group is Not Empty and
imprint is Not Empty and
Story arc is not Empty and
Tags contains MultiPublisher

16. Universe - Chronology
Folder: {<imprint>}{<storyarc>}
Rules: Series Group is Empty and
imprint is Not Empty and
Story arc is not Empty and
Tags contains MultiPublisher))

you could put this 12 profiles in any order for the exclusion rules, you only need to fill the fields in your preference with the help of Data Manager.

augustosanchez, thanks a lot for sharing your profiles. Yes, many of them are quite interesting & I'm sure this will be helpful to many users. As I say in the handbook, there is no absolute way to organize, but such examples will help you understand the process better, and encourage you to choose your own way.

+1 karma on its way...:)

Excellent Tutorial! But I don't quite understand about the custom value, DataManager.processed. In step 7, the smart list pulls books where DataManager.processed is blank. After the Data Manager script is run, only some of the comics have this field filled and the rest are still blank. Shouldn't all of the comics have a value for this field?

Also, when proceeding to step 8, the smart list only pulls books where DataManager.processed is blank which doesn't show any of the books that have the DataManager.processed field filled and therefore they aren't organized with Library Organizer. I assume I am missing something regarding how this process works. Can someone enlighten me?

Thank you
Sklar

First: thank you so much for a great tutorial and for providing the resources to make it easy to implement.

I tried starting from a "all scraped" publisher\series (volume) structure and just following the tutorial to see what it would do to my "Marvel" comics (just to begin).

From the initial test I believe there is an issue with the data managers rules in the zip file.

Specifically the spider-man section (below) seems to end-up only having Carnage and Venom as main characters.

From a quick scan of the dat file it appears that there might be further occurrences of the issue above (unless it's intentional) where lines seems to have been copied without fully being edited. E.g. Ultimates section

also add these 2 to your corrections:
#@ NAME War Machine
<<Publisher.Is:Marvel>> <<Series.ContainsAllOf:Iron Man>> => <<SeriesGroup.SetValue:Avengers>> <<MainCharacterOrTeam.SetValue:Iron Man>>

#@ NAME Weapon X
<<Publisher.Is:Marvel>> <<Series.Contains:Wolverine>> => <<SeriesGroup.SetValue:X-Men>> <<MainCharacterOrTeam.SetValue:Wolverine>>

thanks again

Will do.

Also another correction that is likely needed is the following:
"if a series has format set to Annual then do not change it to Main Series"

The issue is that at the moment the system is not robust vs. multiple runs specifically when using the rule that strips "Annual" from the series title and sets the format as Annual then, when on those comics data manager is run again, they get converted to "Main Series"

Edited: I don't know what happened but somehow it started working without a problem. I don't get it, I'm just glad it works now.

Thx 600WPMPO for the truly awesome work!

I am not sure if I made an error, but in the profile "Main Character" for the Library Organizer I can't see any of the rules, shown in the pdf document.
