Book Description:
Joe Hill's acclaimed short story from his best-selling short-story collection 20th Century Ghosts adapted to comics! The Cape will walk you along the fence of childhood innocence, and then throw you face first into a brick wall. Explore your dark side in this tale by Hill and Jason Ciaramella, with art and two covers by Zach Howard.

Plot Summary:

Every little boy dreams about putting on a cape and soaring up, up, and away... but what if one day that dream were to come true?

Eric was like every other eight-year-old boy, until a tragic accident changed his life forever. The Cape explores the dark side of power, as the adult Eric - a confused and broken man - takes to the skies... and sets out to exact a terrible vengeance on everyone who ever disappointed him.

This critically acclaimed, Eisner-Award nominated story, written by Jason Ciaramella, based on the short story by New York Times bestselling author Joe Hill, with art by Zach Howard and Nelson Daniel, will linger with you long after you turn the last page, and force you to ask yourself the question: “What if?”

I've had the pleasure to read Joe Hill's Locke & Key. I've known about 'The Cape', but never got around to reading it. But now, thanks to Maddy, read I will! :-)

Edit: We also have a one-shot of The Cape (2010). Is this part of the book?

IT seems that book is only available in Hardcover. No Paperback version?

The 2010 One-Shot is basically like an issue 0 and is the original short story. Issues 1-4 are a continuation and begin immediately after the one-shot ends. So, yes the story is all 5 issues.

As far as I know they never made a trade paperback edition only the hardcover and it collects all 5 issues. By the way, I've got a digital collection that includes the original short story on audio (its about 50 minutes) if anyone wants to borrow it they can PM me and I'll put it online and send you a link.

One of the things holding me back from giving this a 5 out of 5 was the kinda strange, grainy, pixelated art like a zoomed-in newspaper; upon re-reading I think the art is perfect for the story.

It's not really a spoiler because we learn it on page 6 of the one-shot but:

Anyways, I'm glad that I picked this one because I thoroughly enjoyed the re-read but it wasn't quite the same as the first time I read it when I felt compelled to share it with a friend the next day at work mostly because thrillers are never quite the same once you know what's coming.

Just finished the one-shot.
A really nice self-contained story. I'd be quite happy if this was the end of it. I hope the mini-series lives up to it :)

(I think the grainy artwork is a nice touch, given his situation :D )

Finished reading this, and it's one of the best things I've read this year (okay, it's only March, but I'm trying to make a point here).
From the snippets and plot summaries I had read online, I was expecting something completely different.

All in all, I give this volume 4.5, and would gladly recommend it to others.

(I immediately got my hands on the "prequel" - The Cape 1969 - also worth reading)

PS - looks like it's down to us 3 again......

Yeah some events played out differently then you might automatically think. For example, in issue #3 when
