That describes pretty much any movie Argento has ever done haha... Or Fulci.. Or even Soavi.

It's not a Dylan Dog spin-off either. Cemetery Man was a book first and the character had been used a couple of years later in a DD special.

Really? I always thought that his first appearance was "Orrore Nero" - didn't know there was a book.
I like the character and the setting, I wonder if I can get my hands on the book.. what's the title?
I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!

From Wikipedia:

In 1994 Italian director Michele Soavi directed the film Dellamorte Dellamore (known abroad as Cemetery Man or Of Death and Love), with a screenplay written by Giovanni Romoli and based on Tiziano Sclavi's similarly titled novel.[8] Francesco Dellamorte (his mother's surname was Dellamore) – a sort of Italian alter ego for Dylan Dog – appears for the first time in the third special issue of Dylan Dog, Orrore nero (Black Horror), released July 1989, in which he met the Nightmare Detective, but Sclavi's novel was written before the special issue.

The novel came out in 1991, 2 years after the first appearance in the comic book. However, I read that Sclavi had written the novel years before he did Dylan Dog and that he had somehow lost the manuscript. He then resurrected the character in the DD special and later found the missing novel which he then also published.

I remember the hype when it first came out (the film), and how poor marketing basically ruined it right from the start. It was advertised as "Il film su Dylan Dog", and everybody was p****ed off that it wasn't quite like that.
Still, it's nowhere near as bad as the actual Dylan Dog film we got a few years ago, Dead of Night..

The comic book story Orrore Nero is quite good, so I'll have to try and get my hands on the book

Luckily I found it rather late after having gotten into Italian giallos and horror movies. Back then I hadn't even heard of Dylan Dog so I didn't have any expectations. For me it was just a very cool and weird zombie flick! I should rewatch the actual Dylan Dog movie that came out a couple of years ago now that I have read a few of the books. I can't remember much of it (which is usually a bad sign).

I only have the German editions of Dylan Dog, they issued 62 books. I don't think that special was part of those. I read 1 every day and have finished 17 so far. What will I do afterwards? I have yet to find those scanlations people are talking about.

For a fan film it looks great. You just like to bitch, hm?

Already liking it better than the excuse for a movie that came out in 2010. What were they thinking? It was so far removed from the source material that they could have done without the 5 DD references they used in it and nobody would have made the connection. Even then it would have made for 1 very boring movie.

I like to be objective. If that comes across as bitching, so be it :D

That 2010 disaster was just... bleah...
I think adaptations can diverge from the source material, sometimes drastically, and still become something worthy. That was just a terrible marketing strategy. It would have been better to just call it something else, and not try to reference Dylan Dog in any way.
