Book Description:
The Horse has been the arch-enemy of The Navigator for years. But The Horse feels The Navigator's moral compass slipping, and even a villain can’t let that happen. The Horse decides to get a closer look into The Navigator's past that he's buried deep in his subconscious and find out what drives a person to make the right choice, and what propels someone to make a selfish one. Thus begins an exploration of why a young man would take the mantle of a superhero.

From All-Comic:
Translucid has been an excellent pairing of great writing and fantastic art. The nice thing about this series is that it's great for fans of the superhero genre but it also appeals to the casual reader. Overall Translucid was an intriguing and psychedelic mindfuck of a read, which gets my seal of approval. It will be exciting to read this as one whole piece now.
From Bloody Disgusting:
I've always felt like Translucid was operating at an intellectual level above myself. Its an incredibly smart book that conducts itself on a grand operatic scale at times and at other times slows down to sublime moments of self-reflection. Its been refreshing to the core, with a seriously psychologically damaged hero, and a villain who at times seems more capable than the hero. I couldnt be sadder to see it go but I also couldnt be happier with the ride weve shared.

By the way, all thanks to you for your 'late' reply in the last reading club. I missed posting this month's reading club, and then I see your post, suddenly I look at the date, and it's the 10th of October. I think I'll make a monthly reminder in the phone for this, so that I don't forget next time.

Haha...very funny!

Here's my review (spoiler-free) for the first issue:

This is interesting, in as to how this setup will play out. The focus of the book is quite sharp. I can foresee less of a story in this mini-series, and more of a conceptual take on the hero-villain symbiosis. This could well have been a Batman-Joker comic. But then, this is just the first issue, and it's quite promising. So, I'll give it a positive score, & eagerly await the next one.

My (spoiler-free) review of issue #2:

This issue is amazing. The words are so rich that almost every dialogue is like a golden quote. The art is excellent, and both the stories get immediate recognition & their own separate aura. This is a slow burn, where you just need to let yourself go into the uncertain complexities being presented. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and found it definitely re-readable. One of the finest comic issues I've read in a long time.

Read the first two issues so far, and decided to give it a week to sink in.

After reading the first, my reaction was "WTF" - the artwork is crazy (in a very good way) and the characters are interesting. The duality of the issue, with the "story" about the Horse and the Navigator seems like a fairly standard hero/villain deal, but then the framing story puts it into a different perspective, and I often found myself going back, especially to review the dialogue.

Issue 2 fleshed out this framing device more, and not necessarily how I would have wanted. The "abusive father" story is a dangerous one, and the risk of it becoming cliched later on is high. We'll have to see how the writers play their cards.
The art, as with the last issue, is very interesting.

Review for issues 3 & 4:

#3:
This was very abstract. There's so much blurring of the boundaries between the two storylines that it becomes incomprehensible every now and then. But, still is very interesting.

#4:
What a dampener. This issue, for me, was of the absolutely uninteresting variety. I have no desire to read any further, as I find myself lacking in empathy or recognition with any of the characters. But, I'll read the remaining issues for the sake of completing this reading club. Hope they aren't this bad.

Issue 3 down, we're starting to get into the "mindf***" of the story.
In the first issue, it was clear that eventually we'd see the two "realities" fade into one another in some fashion. This is where the art speaks more than the words.
Some of the plot elements are a bit obvious, but not so bad I want to stop reading. Hopefully issue 4 will pick up the pace, and prove 600WPMPO wrong :D

Review for issue #5:

Just end this already. I've lost all interest in who the horse is, what his motivations are, and how (if, at all) will the navigator fight him. This comic derives an almost sadistic pleasure in putting the protagonist in hopeless situations, inflicting upon him pain upon pain. And, as if that were not enough, we also have the flashbacks of a tormented childhood. Will the hero recover? Will he win the struggle? Will be regain his sanity? Yes? I. Don't. Care. One more issue to read, and this pain that I'm inflicting on myself will be over.
