TOPIC: Initial Thoughts

Initial Thoughts 4 years 8 months ago #29626

Not sure what's "live" and what's still under construction but here's where I'm running into trouble:
1. Attempts to synchronize, whether from the settings in the app or File->Synchronize Devices in CRWin immediately crash the app
2. Selecting views from the bottom left crash the app, unless you use the elipses to pull up the customizer. if you select the views here it works.
^UPDATE once I loaded books, the views outside the sorter worked fine
3. Metadata doesn't seem to load if the book loads via itunes/usb

1) I will look into that
2) already fixed, will be in the next build
3) which kind of file did you load, .cbr, .cbz?

First off, congratulations on finally starting the iOS journey! Big thanks to cYo (& crios). :-)

The application loads pretty fast. UI is initially overwhelming, but it has a fast & easy learning curve.

Comic reading is largely smooth, but the app takes some time in loading the next page (especially in hi-res comics).

The icon (and the splash screen) definitely need some polishing.Thave a look at what we are competing with:

CRW does not recognize my device (iPad3 on iOs 6.0, non-jailbroken yet)

I use iTunes on my Mac (not on Windows). So, I used DiskAid for the transfer of files. It went smoothly & CRiOS recognized the books on exiting from the tray & restarting.

All files are CBZ. CRiOS doesn't recognize the metadata.

The Info dialog also needs much work.

And, hitting the series button on an empty library crashes the app.

I sent a doc to CRIOS... cannot attach it here (why???I zipped it, 350kb), so I can share like this only my experience and ideas...
Features: (red not working, green tested ok, yellow have some doubts)
* wirelessly synchronize with ComicRack for Windows
* upload comics with iTunes (.cbr and .cbz)  comics appears only after restarting app…
* groups comics in the library with lists (series, story, publisher, etc.)
* pin/unpin the lists
* display comics in the library as cover, details, or stacked

* filter current list to display all, unread, currently reading, and read comics
* sort comics by series, story, publisher, etc. in ascending or descending order
* stack comics by series, story, publisher, etc. in ascending or descending order
* search for comics (and optionally save searches)
* open last read comic
* rate comics
* single/double page mode
* fit page to width or height of device

* adjust screen brightness (with user defined low/high settings)
* navigate parts, pages, and books
* zoom pages
* configure actions for tapping in reader view

Then also:
Missing
* image cropping  would be nice to have CRIOS remembering the last zoom set (with a button when doing it) for that album, like comicGlass
* command to refresh library  crashing as it is now the synch button…
* display progress at startup when initializing library  also when synching, no progress visible on ipad
* restore last state at startup  with an option if possible… I may not want it.
* animations when changing pages and books in reader view  yes, a smooth transition would be advisable, still with option
* move to next/previous book after last/first page in reader view  again, by option

Known issues:
* improve artwork-  when starting the app, the loading screen is toooo quick… can’t see anything!

Errors:
- I cannot fully synch. I paired the ipad. I created an ipad list, copied 4 comics. Only 1 synched, even with different attempts...
If I start on CR PC. If I do sync from ipad, it crashes.
I have full rights on my pc… should I open the port in the router ? The shared library setup in CR have port 7216 for external access… should it be the same ? please explain…
Added: after synching once with itunes, synch worked for a second album (not all of them I had in the list), but still crashed at the end….

- I had several crashes: do you receive the logs or should I send them ? in this case how?
- I think when synching with iTunes, the comic info are not ported…
- Naming in CRIOS is different from CR

Suggestions\Need help:
- Change background color: white, grey, black and maybe based on comic background 
- I would make more use of the slide from… possibilities t open menus and else… up to you to see if possible and where
- How can I delete a comic from ipad?
- Wouldn’t be possible to access the shared library in CR as one would do from another PC ? this way I could simply access and copy the comics I want… just asking…

what do you think ?

M

Adding something...

If i unpair the device, then it is no possible ot pair it again, unless restarting the App from scratch (means: close it in taskbar). Still after that sync is not working.

About naming being different : the naming showing in CRIOS is like series - - title. My CR PC name of the album is a classical one, Title is only title, series and n. are informed, filename is Series - #number - title. All my comics are .cbz....

EDIT: sync from CRIOS crashes... when reopening (not restarting) the synch option is greyed out still...
I would, allow me!, suggest to move the sync button on the top bar, as i keep on hittin search... so my personal UI thinks it should be there instead :-)

I thought iPads had a physical button for this?
