While the functionality is gradually being added on, I feel that we are still very far from considering CRiOS a 'finished' product, ready for release. This review box, for instance, is one of the relatively unflattering & unpolished dialogs (pardon me, but better I, than some customer says that in a review) that I have seen on a decent iOS app.

The title font (& its shadowed style) & its color need a major overhaul. The background picture is, at best, awkward, and neither contributing to a pleasant viewing experience nor adding to the info.

Imagine that... I was coming here to post about the fact that CRIOS looks almost done on my side !! :-D

Luckily 600 is much more picky than I am... I really focused on the way it works and the bugs, the graphic (maybe because I am crap at that) I left it behind!

Anyhow, consider where we started... We have now a great app... yes, some polish is needed, but don't tell me that out here there are revolutionary comic reading app that are far ahead of CRIOS...

I think cYo and the team will put bells and whistles in CRIOS: see the speed they are adding small touches now that CRIOS is stable.

So, back to my original idea for this topic... I think we are close, for my idea, then 600's ideas would bring it to the next level!

Keep on the good work !!!

M

Thank you for your feedback!

600WPMPO (or anyone else), besides the visual appearance, what would be the major points that you think need to be adressed before we release the app?

Three things are essential for an app's transition from beta to retail:
1. Stability
2. Functionality
3. Aesthetics

I think we have achieved the first, are gradually wrapping up the second & moving on to the third.

Apart from visual appearance, I think these features are on the to-do list:
1. Page count
2. Filename & filesize (maybe in the Info dialog)
3. Screenshot tool (with cropping functionality, maybe)
4. Bookmarks
5. Auto-rotate/rotate lock for double pages

And here are some ideas regarding the visuals:

"3. Screenshot tool (with cropping functionality, maybe)"

Hm, it would be better (or simpler) than the iPad's screenshot function (power button+home button)?

I feel that the shadow of the list bar should made more subtle. We can compare the design with the shadow of the sidebar from the Amazon app:

Won't have to press them

While I agree with the majority of your UI statements, I do have a few items of difference.

Respectfully, I disagree with the statements around the gradient bar and buttons. "Coolness" is a personal factor, however I feel that flat buttons and bars are too reminiscent of Windows Phone, Windows 8, and to a lesser extent, Android.

The iOS platform has always tried to convey a visual similarity to Mac OS X, not to Windows, WinPhone, Linux, or Android. Smooth gradients and buttons are a hallmark of Mac OS X, and most iOS apps as well.

As ComicRack for iOS is an iOS app, it should logically appear to be visually based on iOS and Mac OS X UI design standards. To give CR iOS the look and feel of an Android or WinPhone app would result in an app whose dissimilarity to standard iOS apps would be somewhat jarring.

In regards to the need to save space, I definitely agree with you: a large, empty, central column is something that should be avoided.

In regards to the summary text, again, I respectfully disagree. Here's why: the summary text in the browser is an excellent way to provide context to the reader around the story line of the issue. If we reduce the unused space in the center by increasing the width of both columns, we can increase the amount of summary text that may be displayed, providing even more data when skimming through a library.

Perhaps the user should be given the option of a single column vs. double column browser view?

@Vasbinde: I agree with what you say above. Some of my suggestions need discussion. And, at this moment, I can see that you are perfectly correct regarding the GUI designs. We need more of your feedback. We just had a new release today that has a refined visual look. I'll post the screenshots later today. Awaiting your comments there...:-)

"Some of my suggestions need discussion."

Usually you have to discuss that with yourself. :D At least, as I see it, most of the time only you say something about the releases.

I'm waiting for this app, I hope we can try it soon.
