Can you create a folder from with CRA in "/sdcard/extStorages/SdCard" ?

You could also try "/mnn/sdcard/extStorages/SdCard"...

No, I can create a folder only from the PC.

Same result:

That's odd.. are you able to use other apps to write to the external SD?
Honestly speaking, I don't know because I haven't fiddled with it at all. This is a new tablet, with a freshly formatted external SD card. I haven't used it for anything other than CRA. Wife only browses the net & checks her mail & facebook.

What version of Android is on your tab? There are some versions that have write permission to SD card issues, some versions of Honeycomb for example.

I think that may be your problem.

A quote from this link:

blogs.computerworld.com/18692/android_32_upgrade

Take note, though: With Android 3.2, SD card support means something slightly different than what it's meant in the past. Whereas Android smartphones treat SD cards like regular drives, with full read and write access, Android 3.2 tablets view external cards in a much less PC-like manner. In short, apps can read an SD card -- but they can't write to it.

I don't know of a solution to this though, if you are rooted there may be options, or there may be options that cYo can build into CRA.

Yeah looks like the fix can only be done if you're rooted.

From here.

I've found a simple solution for gaining write access to the external sdcard (/mnt/sdcard2) on Android 3.2. The sdcard is mounted r/w, but the owning group is media_rw which is linked to the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission. Unfortunately, this permission was not required for access to the external sdcard prior to 3.2 so most file management utilities do not request it when they run...meaning they only have read access to the card.

The simple solution, if you're rooted, is as follows:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your tablet.

After this change, any apps that request the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission (which includes almost anything that access either of the sdcards) will gain group membership in both sdcard_rw AND media_rw, giving them r/w access to both sdcard filesystems.

EDIT: I'll keep looking for some kind of non-root solution but it's not looking promising,
EDIT2: I didn't do a ton of searching so if this isn't the exact problem I apologize in advance.

I would like to thank you all for your helpful suggestions. :-)

I am not rooted, and I do not intend to go through that.

I will restrict my comics on CRA to a handful (that my internal storage can handle), just so that I can test it, and give suggestions for future builds of CRiOS.

By the way, you all just witnessed an example of how an innocent Android user faces problems that an iOS user will never need to undergo. Sigh...

Nothing I can do about this, as WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE is only granted to System Apps.
I remember already running into this a year ago or so. Most manufacturers seem to patch this problem in their custom ROMS (like my trusty A500).

Can't you upgrade to 4.0+?

To me, rooting is one of the best things about android. I can't imagine having a device that I couldn't control every aspect of. Unfortunately, it would be impossible to have phones/tablets come pre-rooted, because let's face it, most users should not have root access. It would be a nightmare from a support standpoint.

I do understand your point though. I'm not sure why they would lock down the sdcard. I can understand not allowing a2sd, but not allowing 3rd party apps to even write to it? Stupid. I don't know if there's something cyo could change in the permissions to fix it or not as I haven't researched the problem enough. The more I look, the more I'm seeing conflicting statements about what the actual problem is, so for now, it's not looking like anything can be done from a Dev standpoint, but I could be wrong.

EDIT: Type too slow, cyo already weighed in.

BTW This whole issue was the reason for adding an optional secondary read only path for comics.
