I have to go right now, but I'll set up a VM and see if I can recreate the bug and solve the issue.

I was able to recreate your issue by running a virutal desktop in NT4.0 mode with wine 1.1.9. try running it without a virutal desktop in XP mode and see if that solves the issue. do make sure that you allow the windows manager to both decorate and control the window.

see if that solves your problem

I get the same bit of code, followed by a dozen or so more things that it cant parse after that. And I was just able to run it under a VM with a clean wine install without generating this issue.

I'm at a bit of a loss here. I'll do some more toying in the morning and see what I can do.

I think I found the problem, it has to do with wine 1.1.9. I recently updated my laptop from windoze to Arch linux. it's a rolling release cutting edge distro, anyway, when I installed wine it installed 1.1.9, and I could never get ComicRack to work. what I finally discovered (and have been unable to remedy) is that it's crashing while trying to create the config files. theoretically dropping good config files into the apropriate places would solve this problem (thus a reinstall for me woked, as the config files already existed). If I had the full .dll dependencies I could start droping dlls off of my now much diminished windoze partition and testing to see where wine falls short, however, I'm not sure how to find what dll's its calling, or been able to find anything on the web that tells me. I'm looking though.

Time for some thread necromancy.

Using the default Lenny ( Debian ) installation forget about running Comicrack on wine. Even with the above listed procedure and some more i tried. Both the stable and the development builds off comicrack are not usable ( none will start ).

Its odd, that there is no reader/organizer on Linux that has the same functionality like comicrack.

So, we will still need to wait for a other solution that rivels a non virtualized solution...

It seems to only install and launch initially under wine 1.1.8 (I have not tried previous versions) but I have had some success at continueing to run it under newer versions of wine (as long as it is configured not to look for news on open).

You could build your own wine package, the source is still available. or if not the best bet for linux nativ is comix, though it has no where near the functionality of ComicRack.

I have it running successfully on Arch 64 with wine 1.1.21. but I did have to install from wine 1.1.8.

hope that helps
