It’s still a young project really only having its first release last week. At this point my main goal is to provide a strong core of management and letting the other features evolve as user demand grows for it. And being open source it’s available for anybody to add the features they’re want to the core to grow it.

For CVDB it has code to do the scraping but it’s not fully integrated. I wrote that when it it as still a desktop app but haven’t exposed that to the web interface yet. It fully supports the comic info, xml file format now and will import an entire library from ComicRack in place (that’s how I’m using it).

I don’t plan to try and bring over every feature ComicRack has: you can’t easily boil the ocean. But as a community we can bring over the things that people absolutely want. And I’m adding support to allow writing extensions in Python or to port existing ones, hopefully with minimal rewriting.

You can help me grow a new community around ComixEd. I just put out the first (rough) release last week and would love to get users to use, test and help me develop it into the next comic management tool.

I don't have time at the present moment to check out the app, yet I did look over a few pages of the GitHub site and I'm excited. This gives me a great reason to learn some Java like ComicRack did for me with Python.

After some studying of the languages used (both frontend and backend) and the existing code, I'll let you know when I'm ready to join in on the fun when it comes to testing and possible coding. I'm just looking for something stable which isn't a memory hog when a HUGE library is in place, and I'm hoping that this develops into just that.

Great work thus far.

Guys maybe you should make another topic to discuss this app? Just saying…

I think that if any additional threads are started outside of this one concerning this new app, they should be done completely outside of ComicRack on the GitHub page since those threads should all be focused on app improvements and enhancements.

I agree that all discussions about ComixEd should be held elsewhere (we have a FB page www.facebook.com/groups/comixed/). I only mention it here to make people who're saddened by ComicRack's EOL aware of an alternative they can migrate over to quickly and easily.

It's funny. When was ComicRack last updated? 2 years ago? I've looked at a couple of other Windows applications for managing and reading comics and I even installed one called YACReader. I haven't come across anything yet that is remotely close to ComicRack in terms of features and speed. It's such a shame that CR is no longer being maintained. I can't really think of a reason that I should be getting nervous about using a program like CR that's stopped development. It's not like other software that could cause HUGE problems down the line due to it's closed Dev status and no available support. But still, I can't help but want to be connected to an active piece of software, especially with the way Tech grows and evolves -- thank God there is an Android/iOS app for those who need that.

I applaud everyone's efforts to make a new comic library & reader application. I wish I could help, but I don't know any modern programming languages.

There are more ways to help than just by writing code. My project needs testers, people with ideas of how to evolve things (as great as CR was, it wasn't the end of the road for what a comic management system could do), and of course users. Development is, honestly, the smallest part of the equation (we had a joke at my old job: SMOP, or a Simple Matter Of Programming...IOW, it was the ideas that were the drivers for the project, the coding was the easy part <g>).

As a professional software tester myself, a hobbiest coder AND a heavy comicrack user I can really help with this XD

I am full of ideas and ways of improving the software, what I don't have is the coding knowledge, patience or time to code it myself XD

Just a heads up guys, the database from ComicRack has been compromised.Even worse is that CLEARLY the passwords of the end users have been stored in a CLEAR TEXT format ( or a format that is easy to reverse ), instead of a hashed password.

Some spammer sends out emails with passwords trying to blackmail people with some b*s story about how they found your password on a porn site and you need to pay them.
I know xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx one of your password. Lets get directly to point. You don't know me and you are probably wondering why you are getting this email? There is no one who has compensated me to check about you.

actually, I actually placed a malware on the xxx streaming (porn) website and do you know what, you visited this web site to experience fun (you know what I mean). While you were watching video clips, your browser started functioning as a Remote Desktop having a keylogger which gave me access to your display and cam. Just after that, my software gathered your entire contacts from your Messenger, Facebook, and e-mail . After that I made a double-screen video. First part displays the video you were watching (you have a nice taste haha . . .), and second part displays the view of your web camera, yea it is u.

The passwords they used to "prove" this, was tied to this forum only. So people, RESET YOUR PASSWORDS on any website that uses the same password as this one, because clearly this database is compromised!

I am posting this in this topic, because a lot of people may have it on their watch/email responds. The rest of the forum is getting spammed ( what i assume is done to hide any posts regarding the database theft ).

And let me state this again: DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE! Its a bluff. And again, CHANGE your password on EVERY website that you used this password ( preferably a unique password per website ).
