The author of ComicRack has been MIA for over a year now, the software hasn't been updated and there are issues with the software, making it almost unusable in newer version of Windows 10 f.ex

So...has anyone found a good replacement?

Nothing else really comes close. It is still working fine for me and if I have to spin up a vm to keep it running then I will. My only issue right now is ios support.

Yet to be a replacement, but maybe it can be if some "programmers" join their crew could be YAC Reader..

Please take a look at ComixEd:

www.github.com/mcpierce/comixed

I just put out the first release candidate last weekend and could use some feedback and help developing the feature set and growing a community.

Is there another place to discuss your software other than Facebook? I deleted my FB account some years ago and don't feel like making a new one anytime soon :) A Reddit might be a thing to look at. I can open one for you if you don't feel like running it yourself, as I am very interested in having a new software for my comics :D

Sure, please open one. I don't have a Reddit account (yet) but will create one to discuss things there.

That being said, it's 2018. What's the best venue for discussing a project? My experience has been nearly universally with mailing lists. Archivable, searchable and there are plenty of ways on the web for people to find the threads without having to create a profile in a website. Is that a viable alternative?

Depends what you want from the set-up though I would guess a combination of Reddit/Discord would probably work

As long as people are able to read the messages without having to register an account, I'd say that would be sufficient.

Yes Reddit you can read without having an account (I think you might even be able to post).
Discord requires an account (but definitely less intrusive than facebook) but it's closer to an enhanced version of IRC (with some characteristics of a forum) and would likely be used by those with whom you want to discuss development more "real timeish"

I guess reddit would be the way to go, then. But again I'm open to whatever the community prefers.
