for webp i use for digital comics quality 75 instead of lossless
compare to original jpgs (100%) its compress to 20%-40% (yes better then jpgcrush or jpg2000)
and dont need compressed archiving (noncompressed archiving are smaller!)

Thanks for the info -oX-. Despite the fact that its specification is not yet finished, it seems that FLIF is very promising. Is there a tool to play with it? If the answer is yes, have you tested the conversion performance (it is important because almost all our files are JPG right now.)?

if you want a high speed you can forget some formats

here only can webp help in near future because its use the VP8-codec
it is include in hardware-decode/encode of mostly actual SOC's
BUT - the actual state of webp-algos dont use hardware(de/en)coding - its only software
compare to modern jpeg-algos - webp and FLIF-softwarealgos need 3-5x more time
i dont have a special speedbenchmark to compare losslesscompressions
google use LZ77 and brotli (new zipmode)

my conversion experience only based on lossy - sorry

if you want own tests here is a link to build you tool

if "99% instead of 100%" is allowed
maybe the new compressionmode "-near-lossless" with webp-images is a way for you

if u look for the binary tools
the actual 0.4.4 is here (cwebp)

I am sorry -oX- , what I meant by conversion performance was not related to speed. I wish to know what can we expect in terms of filesize gain if we try to convert a 100MB CBZ full of JPEGs to a CBZ full of FLIFs.
Some formats achieve great compression from source material, but work badly converting images already lossily compressed. I am always curious to know if a format can be an answer to both our future and our past.
