Leaving cYo\ComicRack\Cache exposed under the user's profile is unsafe. Windows OS encryption is shaky at best and subject to hacking by anyone who controls the physical machine.

Please allow for storage of ComicRack's cYo\ComicRack\Cache structure at alternate locations, say for instance, on an encrypted volume or on a local networked drive. Anywhere that doesn't involve leaving it on a laptop that may be carried on an airplane or other public carrier, or possibly a cross an international border.

If you travel with your laptop, it may be subjected to DHS/TSA inspection anytime you board a public carrier or cross a border.

I like ComicRack, but it's not really a safe application for anyone who travels.
Karma? LOL. Get a life. Worrying about website karma is similar to worrying about the weather conditions on the moon: Meaningless.

So... you're afraid DHS/TSA will find your Comicrack settings? Perhaps a secret metadata scheme?

How about you go and take a good look at what CR is stuffing in that location before you get all glib and cutesy.

AppData\Local\cYo\ComicRack\Cache\Thumbnails

AppData\Local\cYo\ComicRack\Cache\Images

Everything CR has opened recently is in there. The filenames are munged and the file extension is ".cache", but the images are there for anyone to see. Experiment with adding a common image file extension (.jpg, .png, etc.) and see what's there.

If you think your Windows password is going to protect you, guess again. Anyone with physical access to your laptop (or a drive image) can boot/view it in under ten minutes. Also, consider that it's within their power to turn you away from the crossing, or if you're a US citizen, confiscate your laptop and obtain a court order to force you to decrypt volumes/containers.

It's not a joke any longer. Grow up and face reality. If you need to cross a US border and assume everything will be fine, you're seriously deluded. They've taken laptops or made images, and one poor schmuck was even sent to prison for having loli mangas.

You can go merrily along until you get screwed or you can play safe. I don't care which you choose.

I'm dumping CR until this issue is fixed. It's a nice reader/manager, but there are others that put their data/caches where you tell them to.

What you say is absolutely true.

However, what the hell are you reading in ComicRack that is going to be legally incriminating in the case of somebody getting into your system (and what are they going to get from the cache that they wouldn't have access to anyway)? It's not like your freaking bank account number is in there...I'm just trying to understand what the source of the alarm is.

Is it secure? No. Does it need to be in the first place? I'm not convinced. Instead of just yelling, maybe you'd like to tell us what specifically you're concerned about...?

Indeed. And for the record, I know exactly what is in there (I do a nightly backup of my entire cache folder) As someone who travels between the U.S. and Europe a couple of times a year every year, I have absolutely no concerns. They can have my Hulk comic thumbnails if they want them. Unless you are reading child-porn manga crap, why would it matter? And if you are, you have larger problems, both mentally and legally, than border crossing.

Probably he is more concerned about copyright infringement.

Regardless the question and request is not as outrageous as one might think. There are plenty of reasons to desire the cache to be stored elsewhere e.g. to support a truly portable version of comicrack

See, this would make sense to me, except that if somebody has access to your cache they've also probably got access to all the books in your library ANYWAY...

This is also true...but this is the first time it's actually been brought up in this thread.

Oh I fully agree with you that randomuser would have done himself a better service by asking more politely rather than going down the privacy road :)

Not necessarily: let's say you keep your library on a server/NAS and use comicrack on your laptop. If you were to travel with only your laptop the books would not be with you but the cache would be.
I think it is still a very weak argument as in this scenario the only thing available would be the covers (I assume as I use cdisplay for actual reading on computer) of comics which would not be that sensitive.

This is from the ComickRack manual 6th ed.

"If your C drive is short on space, you can change where the Temp and Cache files are stored. You can do this two ways: via a command switch or changing the ComicRack.ini file. Locate these lines in the comicrack.ini:

; TempPath =
; CachePath =

Remove the ; character and put in the full paths
after the = sign."

Is that what you are looking for?

I think that's exactly what the original poster was looking for

Not I as comicrack is already slow shutting down enough when I run it from SSD - I fear the time it would take were I to put more stuff on the NAS ;)
