This script allows for the most customized user specified file renaming of the several scripts I've already written. Install the script by extracting the attached file to your \ComicRack\Scripts folder and restarting ComicRack. Right click on the selected eComics to rename. Under the Automation menu item, click on the new item named Guided Rename.... From there the script displays a dialog in which to specify the pattern for renaming files.

Some details:
  • This script does not rename files using ComicRack's file renaming limitations. The only illegal characters are \ / : * ? " < > | This is enforced by the Windows file system itself. Replacement characters are used for some of the characters. " is changed to ' : is changed to - < is changed [ > is changed to ] | is changed to !
  • The following fields can be specified to use as part of the new filename: Series, Volume, Number, Count, Alternate Series, Alternate Number, Alternate Count, Year, Month, Publisher, Imprint, and Title.
  • If any fields are missing for a selected eComic, that comic won't be renamed using the missing field nor any of the prefix or postfix values specified for the field. This allows you to specify things like "( of <count> )" without have a bunch of files missing a count being renamed as "( of )".
  • Numeric fields that have numeric values can be left-padded with zeroes to ensure a minimum width.
  • If the rename cannot be completed, that comic will be skipped.
  • Remembers the last pattern used for renaming and loads it for subsequent renames. Just click Reset to start a new pattern.

That only covers a few features of the script. Tooltips are displayed when you hover the mouse over a control to help you out.

Seems nice because I used to do that via Sharkus script and you always have to open that Dos-screen to run Python.

But... Houston we have a problem.
This script doesn't seem to work for me.
Maybe because it's a monday ;o)
Well let's wait what the other users say.
I'll try it again on an free day.
Thanx anyway for the innovation and extras.

Yep, it doesn't work for me either. Let me run some tests and I'll post a new version.

It's excellent, although there is one thing it lacks. Would it be possible to have it save the renaming pattern between uses? I've kept it in the clipboard, but it would be nice if it would just be there when I call the renamer.

As requested, the new version 1.2 saves the last pattern used to rename files and fills the template text box with it on subsequent runs. If you Cancel the rename operation, the current template won't be saved.

One thing to note is that it doesn't fill the prefix, postfix, and padding fields in the builder section. This means the template field won't be in synch with those fields but just click the Reset button to clear that up.

Check the first post for an updated version.

Thanx works good with ZIP-files.
Curious about the next script :o)
Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the update, but it doesn't seem to work as intended. Observe:

1. Select some files to rename and input a pattern (e.g. "<series0> ""V<volume0> ""<number0> ""(of <count0>) ""(<year0>-<month2>)")

2. Note that the rename works correctly.

3. Select the files again to rename and notice that the pattern that appears ("<series0> ""V<volume0> ""<number3> ""(of <count3>) ""(<year0>) ") is not the one previously used.

Also, the thing says that the operation successfully completed even when hitting cancel. Probably better to keep it quiet when doing that.

You are correct. I'll fix that and post a new version.

cYo, I wish we could turn off those crappy emoticons in the script forum!
