Comic Screen Saver 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I believe comics are art and I love to see see art on my computer when I'm not using it. So.. I added a few lines here and there to another project and came up with...

Yet Another Photo Screen Saver Comic Edition

Please forgive me for plugging my open source project here but I think the folks here will appreciate it. I'm sure cyo could do it better.

Please post good or bad experience here.

Well, I tried your program and liked it.

I normally do not use screensavers, but now I think I can use this. I keep a folder called "Cover of the week" in which I save the best comic book covers; I have used it as the source folder for this screensaver and am quite satisfied with the results.

However, when I use a folder containing cbz/cbr files, I feel that the program displays only the first /last pages from that archive. This feature could be improved.

p.s. Please note that this thread is not related to comicrack. As it has not been objected to by the mods, I have taken the liberty to reply.

I think what you want can be accomplished by changing the setting of the "Number of small images to display in the horizontal direction". To get the most readable pages, set the Theme to Light and set the small images setting as low as it will go and speed to slow.

If that isn't what you want, let me know.

In Windows 7, there is a bug which makes the taskbar disappear with the use of certain 3rd party screensavers. Your screensaver is also causing that bug.

You may read this article :Windows 7 - Taskbar disappears

As I do not use any screensaver, I hadn't encountered this knowledge till now. But, I'm going to stay away from screensavers till this matter is resolved.

But, in any case, your project is appreciable..

It's a cool concept ..and something I've wanted for a long time, but I really would like something optimized for comic books.

1) Full screen covers... just one at a time randomizing with fade in / out effects. (I turn my monitor to portrait view so this would look awesome)

2) It *needs* the ability to look in sub-folders. Without it, most of the functionality is limited.

Otherwise this is a great start! Looking forward to seeing upgrades.

Thanks everyone for the input.

600WPMPO

I actually was running into the taskbar issue myself. I had one computer that is running Windows 7. The code that unhides the taskbar on exit is being circumvented by the OS (I think) by not allowing it to close normally, but only occasionally and never in a development environment. I never have the problem on my Vista machine. I thought maybe it was just me, but apparently not.

If anyone is limping along with the issue as I am, when the bug shows up, go the page that lets you set the screen saver by right clicking on the background and choose personalize and click screensaver. As soon as the page comes up, the taskbar reappears.

I will look into your request. I like the idea.

YAPSSCE does have the ability to do subfolders. You should just choose the base folder.
